About Me

I'm Astra, I married my best friend on July 28th 2012 and August 4th moved into a 23 ft travel trailer. I am currently traveling around the country with my husband as he works on the power lines. I am learning a lot about life on the road, traveling from RV Park to RV Park in a 5th wheel. I am extremely happy in life right now and am just enjoying every minute of it! I graduated from Lewis & Clark State college with my BS in Managerial Accounting. I have put my career on hold but it is all worth it to be with my husband. LIFE IS GOOD!

Goodbyes and adjustments

Sorry it's been so long since my last post!! I got busy with wedding things and work. A lot has happened since I last wrote. Obviously the biggest thing is Brandon came home!!!

Anyone who knows me know when I set my mind to something I don't stop until the task is complete and most of the time I lose focus on everything else and go completely overboard. Well Brandon and I have a goal to be completely debt free by the wedding, including my car, a small credit card, his student loans, truck and trailer and a couple other things. We have had that goal since before he left. Well now that he is on the road there are a lot more unexpected expenses like buying groceries for two "households" and more expensively plane tickets to see each other. We have coped with this and are still making huge progress and well on track to reach our goals. In fact we just paid off his truck last week and " Thor the wonderer" (his travel trailer) in early dec!! I still over analyze everything almost weekly. So I explained all that so you would understand this story:
Brandon and I bought his plane ticket home. It was about $300. He works 5 8s so He was not going to be able to fly in to Spokane until 11pm Friday night and he would fly out Sunday at 3:45. $300 for less than 40 hours...hard to swallow :( so of course I was stressing about that. Well a week before he was coming home he tells me "I called southwest to
See if I could change my ticket to Thursday night so I'll have an extra day. They said I could do that but it's going to be an extra $116. I said ok and told them
To change my ticket" I said in a very upset tone of voice "WHAAAATTT?". He started laughing and said "your so predictable. You don't care that you get to see me for a extra day, your pissed I spent $116. I was just messing with you. They switched my flight and refunded me money because the Thursday flight is cheaper than Friday". I felt really bad for my reaction. I simply said "you know how I am and you know how I get when I have goals...I'm sorry and I can't wait to see you for a extra night" it was pretty comical and really made me take a step back
And try to relax a bit about all the financial stuff.

We had such a productive weekend with Brandon home. The biggest thing is Brandon signed the papers on our home!!! I am so excited!! This is my dream property that I never knew I wanted until I saw it! It's beautiful, the perfect distance from town and everything I could ever want. Brandons grand parents bought this property when they moved to Idaho, so that makes it even more special. I truly cannot think of raising our kids anywhere else...well except maybe a 5th wheel for a couple years if life takes is in that direction. :)
We also found our new wedding photographer and had the most fun, romantic photo shoot ever. I highly recommend Rayla Kay Photography! She is so great!!
Then we got to register for our wedding..not kidding, we spent 5 hours at Bed Bath and Beyond! We had to take a dinner break!! It was so much fun though and everything I had ever dreamed that day would feel like!
Sunday came around and I had to take Brandon back to the airport. It was so heart braking. I keep thinking the good byes will get easier but they don't. I loose it Everytime. Completely sobbing and making tear marks on his shirt. It is so hard. Then as soon as I am in my car I am ok, I am fine now. It's just the actual good bye that is so hard. It's like ripping off a band aid :(
I've decided that I do want to experience life on the road with Brandon before his apprenticeship is over. I think that is something special and once his apprenticeship is over, he will never do anything like that again. Sure he will do storm work but it won't be the same as life on the road as an ape. And I kinda wanna be an apes wife following along for a bit. I want to make sure we are set up for success before I quit my job so it will not be for at least a year... Maybe two years...we'll see.
I am currently posting from my phone. Brandon has school and homework that requires the Internet. He has wireless in the yard but at night and during the weekend when all the trucks are in the yard it blocks the single so he can't use the Internet. So he needed the Internet card...I figured homework and a career is more important than blogging, Facebook and pinterest :) I don't think I can post photos from my phone though so my blogs will be kinda boring for a bit.
Hope you all enjoyed getting caught up on all my crazy thoughts. Feels good to get them out :)
